The Ministry of Defence Estates specified MIC due to its ultimate fire survival properties. The product provides continuity of supply to complex electrical systems in the event of a fire, can withstand temperatures of more than 1,000°C and allows maximum time for escape in the event of fire.

All cabling for the contract is supplied via wholesalers Edmundson Bury St Edmunds and installation of the electrical work is by BME Electrical of Mildenhall, Suffolk. Work started in June this year and is expected to be completed late summer 2008.

Clive Bird of BME Electrical said: ”It was important that the specification for the fire alarm system was MIC as it provides the highest level of fire retardency of any cable on the market today. AEI Cables deliver a high quality cable at a cost effective price.”

Jim Duffy, commercial director, AEI Cables said: ”Mineral Insulated Cabling is often specified for fire alarm systems where the safety of those using the building may require longer evacuation time – for instance in the case of a hospital.

“This product is ideal for such environments and once installed can be relied upon to operate maintenance free. It ticks all the boxes for specifiers and contractors and provides a dependable and constant solution for all concerned.

“We are the only cable producer to offer the full range of fire performance cables. Our customers are able to buy products and services from an informed position as we offer a comprehensive choice supported by technical advice from one source.”
