 | | MAKITA TOOLS FIT FOR ASKHAM BRYAN LANDSCAPE FINALISTS | | | Makita (UK) Ltd | | 16/08/2007 | | | Finalists of the 2005 UK LandscapeSkills contest who have earned their place on the British squad competing at the biannual international WorldSkillls 2007 event in Japan this November will receive gifts of high performance power tools from their sponsor, Makita UK. These will be presented at Askham Bryan College on Thursday 16 August at 1500 hours.
Team members Tim Lancaster, 21 years of age, of Guisley, Leeds and Keith Chapman, also 21 years, of Bedale, North Yorkshire were students at Askham Bryan and have both been successful in achieving a National Diploma in Horticulture.
Since wining the skills competition two years ago they are now fully employed but continue to attend the College under the tutelage of WorldSkills expert, Harry Turner, in preparation for the international event.
Tools gifted to the competitors will be used in the construction of their exhibit, a Japanese garden design, and will accompany them to Japan. They will each receive a selection of tools which will include jigsaws, impact drivers, circular saws, disc cutters, table saws and measuring equipment as well as personal protection equipment and clothing.
“We have followed the success of these very talented young men for two years and are delighted they remain loyal to the tools they used during their training,” says Andrew Helby, marketing manager, Makita UK. “It is particularly significant to us that they are successful in Japan being the international HQ of the Makita brand. We wish them well.”
At the invitation of Makita UK, Tim and Keith will attend a two-day training event at the company’s Milton Keynes HQ later this month and will be joined by four other landscape students from Askham Bryan College who have high hopes of following in their footsteps.
The team will undertake a practice run of the Japanese garden at the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show on September 2007. | |
