 | | AMX PROVIDES `BRAIN' BEHIND GRAND DESIGNS HOUSE OF THE FUTURE | | | AMX UK Ltd | | 06/10/2006 | | | AMX, worldwide leader in residential control technology, has equipped the `House of the Future, Today' exhibit at the Grand Designs Live 2006 exhibition with the latest home automation technology to demonstrate how family homes can integrate the control of virtually every electrical device in the home into simple-to-use touch screen control panels.
The purpose-built house will see a family of actors use the AMX system to control lights, heating, entertainment equipment in the home cinema, and the integrated security system incorporating biometric door entry.
The `family' will use the AMX touch panels to set different lighting moods at the touch of a button, organise telephone video conferencing and call up films and music from the digital media server, which will be played through various screens and speakers located around the house.
For example, the Modero touch panels located by the side of the bed in one of the bedrooms will be used to open and close electric blinds and curtains, control the room lights and operate TV screens in the bedroom and an Aquavision TV in the shower room.
In addition to controlling the electrical systems within the home, the AMX control panels can be used to surf the Internet, send and receive emails, and even take feeds from CCTV and video which can be displayed on the panels' touch screens.
As well as being used by the house's family, who will act out a number of scenarios during the course of the show to demonstrate the benefits of home automation, AMX control systems will be used to control presentation systems, such as cameras and plasma screens positioned outside of the house to provide a clear view to the visiting public of what is happening inside.
The touch screen panels being used for the Grand Designs house include hard wired Modero 7' and 10' widescreen panels and MVP 8400 wireless panels, which offer complete freedom of movement around or even outside of the house while still controlling any of the equipment inside the home. This capability, for example, would allow music systems to be controlled from the garden and played through external speakers positioned on the outside of the house, at the same time as sending and receiving emails.
These touch screen panels control all of the home's equipment via an AMX Netlinx controller, which would normally be hidden away in a cupboard or equipment room, but will be on display at the exhibition to demonstrate how the system works.
