Daikin Airconditioning UK Ltd has upped its commitment to address the current and future environmental regulations affecting the air conditioning industry by launching its new VRVIII Heat Recovery system.

Building on the success of Daikin’s VRVIII Heat Pump and Cooling Only models launched in 2006, the new VRVIII Heat Recovery system features a number of industry firsts. This includes continuous heating during the defrost cycle for increased user comfort and new brazed connections for the condensing unit and the branch selector box for refrigerant containment.

Mark Dyer, Daikin UK’s marketing manager, said: “Daikin has frequently led the market with the development of innovative and energy efficient systems. The new VRVIII Heat Recovery solution is the most sophisticated and advanced product for both installers, end-users and environmentalists on the market.”

Offering end-users a 14% average increase in efficiency across the range compared to Daikin’s existing VRVII model, VRVIII Heat Recovery achieves COPs and EERs of up to 4.3 and 4.1 respectively. Not only does this meet and exceed energy efficiency targets set out by the Government in Part L of the Building Regulations, but it also goes beyond the current criteria set for ECA qualification.

Continued Dyer: “The control of HFCs is currently at the top of the news agenda with F-Gas Regulations coming into force. Our new system operating software includes unique refrigerant containment features.

“Firstly, the condensing unit and branch selector box feature new brazed connections which ensure that the potential for leakage is reduced compared to flare connections. We have also reduced the volume of refrigerant used in the system. A refrigerant containment check facility then provides a simple indirect way to check the refrigerant volume in the system by pressing a button on the outdoor unit PCB, with any changes indicated by LED’s.”

VRVIII Heat Recovery includes a number of other industry leading features. Whilst other VRF systems for example stop operating in the defrost mode, VRVIII comprises two heat exchangers in the outdoor unit. This enables the system to defrost each heat exchanger separately, resulting in continuous heating at the indoor unit even during the defrost cycle, maximising comfort for the end-user.

To help save installers time and offer them complete peace of mind, VRVIII also features an automatic charge function. This brand new facility means installers no longer have to manually calculate and charge the unit with additional refrigerant volume, it is automatically done for them via the simple push of a button. Once the appropriate amount of refrigerant has been transferred, the automatic charging will cease.

Specifically designed to offer installers and end-users greater flexibility, VRVIII Heat Recovery can be supplied via 13 different indoor units in a total of 75 variations, including Daikin UK’s revolutionary Roundflow Cassette, which features a 360 degree radial air flow pattern. The maximum number of indoor units connectable to one system has also increased to 64 to the largest outdoor unit.
