 | | NEW FORTICRETE STEPOC BLOCK BUILDS BASEMENTS DRY | | | Forticrete | | 01/08/2007 | | | FORTICRETE has developed a new version of its Stepoc dry-build, high-strength walling system specifically for basements.
The new Stepoc 325 basement block is 325mm wide, enabling the fast construction of single skin basement retaining walls up to 4 meters high which can carry 2 x 100mm leaves plus insulation and cavity.
The new block still maintains all the advantages of the standard Stepoc system of building modules, designed to readily accept both vertical and horizontal reinforcement. However with its extra width and new internal design, the 325 basement block can accommodate reinforcement bars adjacent to either or both block faces if required to provide enhanced strength.
The straightforward and flexible system combines the ease of traditional blockwork with the versatility of in-situ concrete while being faster to apply than both. Built dry, with no mortar joint, the blocks require no special on-site skills or techniques as each unit weighs less than 20kgs, well within the HSE guidelines for a single man repetitive lift.
Once laid to a ½ running bond, and with reinforcement in place, the blocks are bonded with liquid concrete which is poured down through the interconnected cavities in the blocks. The unique design of the blocks creates a cascade effect which ensures smooth filling of the concrete and forces out any air, creating walls which have immense compressive and lateral strength.
The 325 block is available in full length, half length and plain end/ corner units. | |
