 | | BRIGGS ON TOP AT MAJOR REGENERATION SCHEME | | | BriggsAmasco | | 27/07/2007 | | | Leading waterproofing specialist, BriggsAmasco, has recently completed a complex four-phase roof installation programme at Trencherfield Mill as part of the regeneration of the Wigan Pier Quarter.
BriggsAmasco’s work began in November 05 and has involved the installation of a number of different roofing systems including Kalzip Standing Seam and Firestone Single-ply roofs. Over 6,400 square metres of roofing products will have been laid across four buildings that form part of the Trencherfield Mill complex.
The development is central to the wider ongoing programme of renewal and development that the area is experiencing. The growth of Trencherfield Mill into a contemporary mixed-used site with commercial, leisure and retail outlets as well as a number of luxury apartments has involved substantial investment from developer, Stewart Milne and other key stakeholder groups.
The original building on the Trencherfield Mill site is the 1907 Cotton Mill, housing the world’s oldest working steam engine, once used to generate electricity for the cotton spinning looms. The entire site is of significant historic interest and work needed to be in keeping with the traditional feel of the mill, whilst ensuring a modern aspect was offered to prospective purchasers.
Mike Russell, Manchester Branch Manager at BriggsAmasco said: “We are proud to be part of the team that is transforming Wigan Pier into a vibrant, exciting and enjoyable place to live, work or visit.
“As national leaders within the roofing industry, we have worked closely with the Main Contractor to propose and develop a range of solutions that blend, enhance and support the existing and new fabrication of these historic buildings.” | |
