 | | TECHDEK PERFORMS TWO ROLES AT AWARD WINNING PROJECT | | | Neaco Ltd | | 05/07/2007 | | | The dual functionality of Neaco’s Techdek aluminium open grille system was the main reason behind its specification at Longley Park Sixth Form College, an award-winning £9 million new build facility in Sheffield.
Techdek has been installed on the ground floor to provide a security screen whilst performing another role as sunshading. Ellis Williams Architects were impressed by the product and Neaco’s accompanying technical support.
“We selected Techdek when we realized that by installing it vertically and with appropriate fixings, it could act as both, security screen and louvre,” said Pablo Iglesias of Ellis Williams. “It is also very neat and is corrosion-resistant for a durable installation. Neaco were very helpful in consultation at the design stage and we are pleased with the results.”
The development at Longley Park Sixth Form College has created a new Centre of Excellence to promote higher education to 16-year-olds in the north-east area of Sheffield. The new facilities provide around 7,500sq metres of space and cater for the needs of 900 students. The project won a RIBA Award, having impressed judges with the way the building provided such an interesting range of spaces within such a seemingly uniform set of volumes.
Techdek is a versatile product that is suitable for a multitude of other applications, including staging, decking, ventilation grilles, balustrade infills and roof access walkways. Its modular aluminium components are manufactured off site and easy to assemble with no welding required. The system offers a high architectural aesthetic and is virtually maintenance-free. | |
