DORMA automatic doors are the ideal solution for busy garden centres, providing easy access for customers with their trolleys, baskets and inevitable armfuls of shrubs, plants and other purchases. One major centre that definitely agrees is Scotsdales Nursery and Garden Centre, just south of Cambridge. Nine years ago the outlet had six automatic doors, but today there are eighteen DORMA ES90 automatic sliding doors installed throughout the centre.

David Rayner, the Chairman of Scotsdales comments: “The sheer everyday reliability of the doors themselves is impressive, but as we have expanded it’s the level of service and maintenance as well that makes it such an excellent package. We have what’s known as DORMA 4 Star cover. This means that during two regular visits a year, the recommended level of service for our doors, including adjustments, minor fault rectification and compliance with BS 7036 is carried out. In addition, in the event of a call out, all faults rectified are free of labour costs. And for a unit as busy as ours is seven days a week, it really does bring complete peace of mind. “

The DORMA Group is now the largest manufacturer of door equipment in the world. Its UK Service Division employs over 200 installation and service engineers and a major development has been the introduction of a sophisticated new software based service support system.

Known as the Mobile Service System, it provides real-time updates of van stock, parts ordering and invoicing. Every engineer received extensive training in the use of hand-held data units, known as Personal Digital Assistants (PDA’s) which are an integral part of the new system and enable them to log all their work activities.

At job completion on site, the customer’s signature is captured on the engineer’s PDA and the job is closed and sent for invoicing, resulting in a huge saving in paperwork and procedures. Technical support provided by DORMA’s engineers in the field has never been more advanced and details of the full site history and individual product records can now be automatically beamed to their PDA’s through a wireless contact. The engineers can also take photographs with the units and send them to the appropriate technical department for expert advice.
