The strength of Lafarge Plasterboard’s acoustic partitioning range has been demonstrated once again with a specified contact to supply all the drylining requirements for a new Cine UK complex currently being built as part of the Eden, High Wycombe shopping and leisure development.

Lafarge has supplied its dBcheck sound resistant wallboard, 90mm Cormet C stud and Cormet Acoustic V Brace to drylining contractors BDL of Uxbridge, who are working on behalf of main contractors Multiplex.

BDL have constructed twin frame cinema partitions using twin rows of Lafarge Y gauge 90mm Cormet C studs braced horizontally at 3m centres with acoustic V Braces to provide stability. The dBcheck wallboard has then been fixed to the partition in multiple plasterboard layers in varying thicknesses of 12.5mm, 15mm and 19mm to achieve the necessary acoustic performance.

Based on laboratory airborne sound insulation data, the higher performing twin frame system gives a sound reduction of 73RwdB. The client was particularly pleased when the site tested condition performed to that of the actual laboratory performance.

An important aspect of the installation was the use throughout of Lafarge’s Grabber drywall screws and its air drying powdered compound New Pure Velvet for bedding tapes and finishing joints to ensure full Lafarge system warranty and compliance.

The Lafarge Plasterboard drylining systems have been installed throughout the cinema’s 12 screens and in the foyer and retail areas. The supply contract was awarded to Lafarge because of the strength of its high-performance acoustic partitioning range and its proven and long standing reputation with Cine UK and in the cinema sector generally. It had previously supplied all the materials for the Cine UK complex in Yeovil and the Ster Century Cinema in Basingstoke, as well as many others across the UK.

The Cine UK complex in High Wycombe is being built by Multiplex as part of the 78,967m² Eden retail and leisure development scheduled to open in March 2008. Architects for the cinema were Haskoll Architects.
