BriggsAmasco is currently engaged in a long-term partnering project with Applecross, a Scottish-based housing developer who has created some of the most exclusive and desirable living schemes in the country.

Whilst carrying out roofing works at ‘New Fields’ in Edinburgh, the team were faced with a series of pressing time, logistical and budget restraints that called for a quick and effective collaborative working approach between Briggs and the architect. An overall review of the roof design was needed and following careful consideration and discussion with APX [Iain Curren] and Yeoman McAllister architect’s [Steve Yeoman], the use a metal roof decking system was proposed rather than a timber decking one, providing a series of benefits including:

1Ability to substitute timber joists at 600mm centres and utilise steel purlins at 1800mm centres thus saving a vast sum of money (estimated to be 50k)

2The use of the metal decking when installed provided some degree of weather proofing immediately

3The roof structure was simplified

4The decking was installed at least 4 times quicker than with timber decking

5The decking installation was not weather dependant
