Kinnarps office furniture is sponsoring a team of pupils at Lampton School in Hounslow

Lampton School, a specialist Humanities college, is a mixed, multi-cultural community school with 1350 students on roll. Its ethos supports collaboration and mutual respect for others with a focus on oracy, literacy and creative & critical thinking; this encourages its students to become active, global citizens. Students at the school benefit from a range of opportunities to extend their learning beyond the classroom; trips and visitors, out of school activities, study support and clubs and sports.

One example of this approach is the school's participation in the Greenpower Challenge - a competition to promote engineering and technology as careers, to pupils aged 11 to 18, through the design and build of electric cars for endurance racing.

For the 2006 Challenge the school are being sponsored by local office furniture company Kinnarps.

Marc Bird, head of marketing for Kinnarps, comments, 'Our sponsorship is aimed to encourage young people to think of the environment and how future technologies may be developed to enhance sustainable thinking. Something very close to our hearts as a manufacturer with strong environmental beliefs. We wish the team at Lampton every success and will be following their efforts closely.'

Deputy Head of Lampton School, Les Carswell is very excited with this development and enhancement of the School's business links. 'For some years we have struggled with funding the Technology Club and now we have the potential to move to the next level in the Greenpower Challenge. This competition is a tremendous experience for the students. It makes them think about our current reliance on carbon based fuels and gets them to experiment and work with alternative transport power sources all within a competitive racing environment. We have come along way from racing around the school playground to racing these cars around circuits such as Goodwood and in an environmentally friendly way too.'
