WILA launches its new Planning Aid section on its international website to assist specifiers with all stages of the planning process of a lighting application. WILA shares knowledge, which has been gained over decades of problem solving, guideline implementation and development of illumination technology in their mission to educate, facilitate and exchange information on fundamental aspects of lighting design and provide advice on different lighting techniques which can be utilised to create intelligent light solutions.

During the planning stages it is important that all factors determining light quality are weighted according to visual performance, visual comfort and ambience. WILA's planning section focuses on light quality, light management, design and aesthetics, environmental friendliness, safety and efficiency to cater for all the needs of the specifier, building and user of an application.

The aids assists the designer with luminance planning for different surfaces and materials and presents the various enhancing effects lighting can achieve on walls, floors, ceilings and objects.

With in-depth information on recommendations and lighting standards the planning section presents intelligent light solutions for working areas, communication areas and reception areas with guidance on daylight, artificial light, radiant intensity, standards, glare reduction, colour rendition, direction of light and shadow and the dynamics of light.

Peter Le Manquais, Managing Director comments 'Intelligent light solutions result from a high level of application knowledge and lighting expertise; our Aids will guide planners through the often difficult process of how to light an application and the effects required.

The aim of good lighting design is principally the synthesis of architecture and light, leading to the best possible solution in terms of appearance and function. To add impact to an application with artificial effects one must be competent with the utilisation of light, our new planning aids gives one the know-how required to help plan a lighting scheme with a particular application in mind.

Lighting techniques can be controlled or used to develop effects and alter the personality of a lit space. The aids explore ways in which the lit interior of a building can be enhanced and the working environment improved for the user, implementing energy saving techniques whilst achieving lighting flexibility for the multi-tasked environments of today.'

The planning section is the number one tool for any designer involved in the specification and design of intelligent light applications.

The planning section is available to all lighting designers.
