 | | NEW STOPGAP 700 FLEX GOES TO SCHOOL | | | F. Ball and Co. Ltd | | 22/11/2006 | | | Faced with timber beams infilled with insulation and overlaid with plywood, Ryan Flooring used F. Ball and Co. Ltd.'s new Stopgap 700 Flex smoothing underlayment to provide a surface suitable for the installation of carpet tiles.
The project, a new wing for the Gorsey Bank Primary School, Wilmslow, Cheshire, was being undertaken by Framework CDM, manufacturers of pre-engineered panellised semi-volumetric sustainable building systems.
The timber joists overlaid with plywood were used over the structural floor slab, which was then brought to a smooth surface through the application of Stopgap 700, a flexible, fibre-reinforced smoothing underlayment. One of F. Ball's new additions to its floor smoothing underlayment range, Stopgap 700 is designed specifically for use over plywood subfloors, which have a potential for limited movement over time. Should cracking occur as a result of such movement, the fibres keep the underlayment integral. It also incorporates the latest Ultra Fast Drying Technology which allows new floorcoverings to be installed in as little as 2 to 3 hours.
Ryan Flooring first treated the plywood with F. Ball's Stopgap P131 primer then laid Stopgap 700 to a depth of 3 - 10 mm as required. The task was facilitated by the floor smoothing compound's excellent self-levelling properties. Finally, F. Ball's Styccobond F41 carpet tackifier was used to secure Heckmondwike carpet tiles to four classrooms and corridors - some 500 m2 in all
