As Arsenal's new football stadium (part of a £390m development) takes shape, access specialist SGB is providing equipment to several contractors with very different roles on the project.

The stadium has been under construction for nearly two years, and is due for completion this year. At the moment, fitting out is underway inside the new building and the main roof works are nearing completion.

SGB has provided Prater Limited with its multi-purpose Cuplok scaffolding system to provide direct access for the specialist contractor to construct the main roof fabric. The scaffold was first erected in the north east and north west corners of the stadium, and was then moved to the south east and south west corners. The two structures were linked by a Cuplok 'birdcage' scaffold. At each corner the scaffold measured 20m in height and 50m in length.

Cuplok has also been supplied to main contractor Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd for a construction of the new headquarters building at the stadium. The scaffolding structure envelopes the 23m high building, providing access for various subcontractors completing works on the facade. Internally, Cuplok structures are being used to provide access for wall construction and finishing.

Elsewhere on the project SGB has provided four self-propelled scissor lifts to help MJN Colston with its contract to install mechanical pipe and public health services and carry out finishing work. The two companies have a long established relationship. MJN Colston particularly values SGB's ability to supply specific equipment that can provide access in small spaces.

SGB Mastclimbers has been contracted by Facade System Engineering Ltd to supply 16 mast climbing work platforms. The mixture of single and twin mast machines are providing access for both men and materials working on the external facade of The Northern Triangle, a development of 249 residential flats located on the northern perimeter of the new stadium. When completed, the visually stunning building will be the largest zinc clad residential building in Europe.

Arsenal's Emirates Stadium is being built close to the club's existing Highbury, and is on schedule for completion in time for the start of the 2006/07 season
