 | | GEZE BLOOMS AT NATIONAL SHOW | | | GEZE | | 09/10/2006 | | | GEZE UK might not usually be associated with the great outdoors, but after supplying a door closer for a Chelsea Flower Show garden design the leading door and window control company has broadened its ever-expanding client portfolio. Garden designer Stuart Perry has created a modern, Scandinavian-themed garden entitled `These Four Walls' for the prestigious event, and wanted to incorporate a contemporary cabin to add to the soothing environment.
GEZE was approached by Timber Design Ltd, which constructed the summerhouse named 'Sove' - Norwegian for 'sleep' - and was able to provide a TS550 Floor Spring to ensure the glass door could open smoothly with an inconspicuous control mechanism.
And the installation as part of the Halifax Bank-sponsored garden has proved to be a success, with Stuart Perry delighted with the final result. He said: 'GEZE's floor spring is perfectly suited to control the unique glass door into the 'Sove' summerhouse. The door is held in place by just one strap hinge that is positioned at the top of the door, and the whole of the door is balanced by way of the strap with a small window in the front elevation. This means that when the door opens, the window also opens and the GEZE floor spring will ensure this opening and closing action is as smooth as possible.
'What is so unique is that the door doesn't pivot on a fixed point on the floor. The spring is built into the frame of the wall and inverted to face downwards thereby operating with minimal weight loading.'
The popular TS550 is widely used in commercial applications due to its ability to perform with both single and double action doors. Its features include adjustable closing force, closing speed control and a progressive backcheck facility to protect against damage as a result of the door being flung open aggressively or caught in a cross wind.
Sales and marketing director at GEZE Paul Gerrard, commented: 'This application highlights the flexibility of GEZE products, which can be made to perform in practically any situation.'
