3 million points installed in Ireland

Dublin, Ireland, Friday, 7 April 2006 ... Kedington, Ireland's leading provider of structured cabling and networking solutions, today confirms its position as the leading structured cabling company in Ireland by announcing the installation of their 3 millionth point installed on customer sites across the country. This is combined with more than 300 million metres of cable and 4 million metres of fibre installed in offices across the country.

The three millionth point was installed on a 10 G bit Augmented CAT6 installation for one of Ireland's leading law firms, Mason Hayes+Curran, who are moving to a new state of the art headquarter building in Barrow street Dublin. Declan Moyahan, managing partner Mason Hayes+Curran, explained 'Kedington was selected because they had a proven track record in delivering leading edge technologies and we were determined to deploy the most advanced technologies to help improve corporate efficiencies while also improving the service provided to our customers.' Kedington's managing director Matt Porter says 'Kedington has always lead the way in Structured Cabling in Ireland, we were the first to install Category 3,4, 5, 5e, 6 fibre, wireless and now Category 6a / 10Gig and we have always prided ourselves in future-proofing our clients networks with the fastest products available.'

Kedington's customers include 70% of Ireland's blue chip companies, including eBay, Merril Lynch, Intel and Microsoft. Kedington also secured the largest network tender of the past two years, for the implementation of the data network for the new Cork Airport terminal.

'We offer a single source of knowledge and expertise in relation to all aspects of network implementation,' says Willie O'Connell, managing director of Kedington's Solutions Division. 'This means our customers are able to partner with us throughout the specification, design and implementation of their network solutions, no matter how complex or unique their requirements. By now we have installed enough cable to reach five times around the globe, so no matter what the challenge we have the experience to meet it.'

Last May, Kedington installed Ireland's first 10 Gigabit copper network for VHI.

The network, which was installed for Mason Hayes+Curran represents the most recent advance in copper technology, enabling computers to communicate at 10 times the speed of previous solutions. Until recently it was assumed that to reach such high speeds it would be necessary to use fibre optic cables to the desktop. According to Porter: 'Augmented CAT 6 negates the need to plan for expensive fibre deployments to the work stations and solves the problem of powering devices such as phones over high speed networks. Kedington was the first in Europe to install Category 6 network solutions and now has achieved another first in Europe installing the next generation Category 6a cabling solution.

'We were the first in Ireland,' says Porter, 'to highlight that the CAT 6 and CAT 6a represent a major step forward for the Structured Cabling industry. For the first time, network designers can now deploy copper passive networks that will support the current technologies and will also support future demand for speeds of up to 10 G bit.'
