SWITCHING TO FLEX 7 LOW VOLTAGE SWITCH UNITS
Flex Connectors Limited
12/11/2008
Flex Connectors have launched new plug-in low voltage switch units with a unique feature which can save contractors considerable time and money now that the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations have come into effect.
The flex 7 switch units have a 12v AC PELV rated switch connector, allowing one or more switches to be connected without the switch drops needing supplementary mechanical protection or a Residual Current Device (RCD) – the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations allows PELV devices within zone 0.
The supply for the switch drop is derived from an isolating transformer and – unlike many other switches and sensors – is also isolated from the luminaire ballasts, which are not normally PELV rated.
Two types of units are available – an ON / OFF switch pack (fns1000) for latching or retractive switches; and a DIMMING switch pack (fns3000) for retractive switches, available in 0 – 10V, DSI or DALI versions.
The switches, like all flex 7 control devices, plug-in to flex 7 sockets, connection units or extender leads. They are supplied as kits with a control pack and a plug-in 10m switch drop lead. Leads of up to 50m in length are available and multiple leads can be connected to the control packs using ‘Y’ connectors.
