Kingspan Off-Site is helping small scale builders meet the challenging demands of the Code for Sustainable Homes through its tailor-made Code for Sustainable Homes Assurance Scheme. Aimed at disseminating the company’s working knowledge of meeting the demands of the Government Code, the bespoke scheme is available to self-builders and small-scale developers through Kingspan Off-Site’s comprehensive network of system suppliers.

Kingspan Off-site gained first hand experience of the challenge of meeting the highest Code requirements through creating the first Level 6 home, the innovative Kingspan Lighthouse, at BRE’s Innovation Park in Watford. As such, Kingspan Off-Site is an ideal partner to support the small developer market, to ensure that housing projects of all sizes meet the Code requirements.

The scheme offers a consultancy service from pre-design stage and addresses all areas of the Code, incorporating aspects such as air-tightness, waste recovery levels and CO2 emissions. Support can be provided through the design, construction and post-construction stages, including the post-completion certification process.

The scheme will be managed by a specially created ‘Building Performance Services Team’, comprising key team members behind the Kingspan Lighthouse project. This team will work closely with the system suppliers to ensure they have the support they need when working on Code level developments.

The level of support provided by the team will be assessed according to each individual project, with the service offering face to face meetings, site visits, telephone advice and literature created to guide builders through the process of meeting the Code requirements, step by step. This comprehensive support is complemented by a new TEK Building System website (found at www.tek.kingspan.com), alongside the existing Kingspan Off-Site website.

Paul Newman, technical director at Kingspan Off-Site, is leading the Building Performance Services Team. He commented: “We are working at all levels of the housebuilding industry to share the knowledge gained from designing and constructing the Kingspan Lighthouse.

“Through the Code Assurance Scheme we can provide advice on aspects such as the design, energy efficiency and the most appropriate options for renewable technologies to meet individual requirements. We are working closely with our network of system suppliers to ensure they have all the information they need to pass on to their customers.”
