A new warehouse in Doncaster enshrines ASDA’s commitment to energy saving and minimising carbon emissions by utilizing an innovative combination of natural light and lighting controls from Zumtobel Lighting.

The design of the 40,000sq foot building uses large skylights in order to give maximum amounts of daylight, while the lighting system, designed by Tate Consulting Engineers, includes Luxmate TLM controls from Zumtobel Lighting to ensure that electrical lighting is only phased in when daylight levels fall.

A series of sensors on the roof mounted TLM ensure that the 3,000 individual fittings contribute only the output required to support the natural light at any given time and the sensitivity and accuracy of the Luxmate controls should deliver energy savings in the region of 65% compared to a conventional lighting system.

The project is a good demonstration of the philosophy that light management is not an isolated function but an integral part of any lighting solution – in this case helping to deliver the significant energy savings requested by the client while maintaining good operational lighting levels.

Luxmate controls benefit from over ten years at the forefront of digital technology. Not only do they deliver consistent performance but are popular with contractors and clients also for their simple and quick commissioning and the user-friendly interface which makes it simple for users to get maximum benefit from the system.
