As energy prices soar to record levels, owners and operators of warehouses, distribution centres and other large open spaces can reduce energy usage significantly through the installation of an air induction system from JET Environmental.

According to a report published by the Carbon Trust recently, energy efficiency is now the number one cost-cutting priority for UK businesses looking to combat the impact of a potential economic slowdown. But with UK industry still wasting almost £7 million a day on poor energy efficiency, the Carbon Trust and business groups are urging businesses to seize the potential savings on offer.

The JET system is proven to save hundreds of tonnes of carbon per annum. It is specifically designed as a low-carbon solution for heating and cooling large areas like warehouses, distribution centres and large factories. Estimates show that UK businesses could collectively save nearly £2.5 billion during the next 12 months, simply by implementing cost effective energy efficiency measures.

Robert Simpson, Managing Director of Jet Environmental, says: “Warehouses and similar spaces are notoriously energy inefficient due to their large size and the poorly designed systems used to heat or cool them. In the face of rapidly rising energy bills, a Jet system can cut consumption and dramatically reduce the HVAC costs for these types of building. Jet Environmental’s system, through its simple but clever solution to heating, can significantly reduce the amount of mechanical heating and cooling used in sheds, which in turn can reduce the cost of energy bills in excess of 50%. The system can be supplemented with various renewable technologies, for example, ground source and solar, which can further reduce the amount of energy to be paid for.”

The JET approach features a series of self-balanced jet nozzles which direct warm or cool air into the space from roof level. These nozzles are connected via ductwork to an air handling unit and selected heating/cooling source. A JET system will also capture any waste heat generated in the space, from electric lighting or natural solar gains through roof lights, mechanical handling equipment and people. JET systems are designed to provide free cooling in summer by releasing large volumes of fresh air into the building and carrying out a night time purge when external temperatures are lower than the desired internal temperature.

JET’s system has been used for a number of years by some of the country’s biggest blue-chips and PLC’s, including Boots, DHL and Tesco. The system is particularly well suited for pharmaceutical storage applications because it allows products to be kept at a regulated cool temperature.
