SOARING GAS PRICES COULD KICK START RENEWABLE ENERGY REVOLUTION – SAYS STIEBEL ELTRON

A leading global renewable energy specialist says rocketing gas prices could help kickstart the Government’s “green revolution” (see notes to editors) and end the UK’s dependence on fossil fuels.

Stiebel Eltron’s UK managing director Mark McManus said British Gas’s decision to hike its bills by 35pc overnight is another major incentive for the public and private sector to go green and install renewable energy products to power their workplace.

“Renewable energy products are the future as the Government starts to exert greater pressure on both the public and private sector to become greener and more energy efficient,” he said. “They do not use oil, gas or coal and only take a small amount of electricity from the national grid. The rest of the energy, to heat a building, is generated by the environment either from beneath the ground or from the air. This obviously costs nothing and does not emit Co2. So in a climate of increased Government pressure and soaring gas bills renewable energy products are a cost saving, green-friendly alternative for the building industry, housing associations, landlords and home owners. ”

Mr McManus said Government grants to subsidise the cost of installing renewable energy products are another huge incentive for businesses to ‘go green’.

“Here at Stiebel Eltron we provide a one stop shop for anyone looking to use renewable energy products,” He said. “We have a massive range of products stored here in the UK. We can advise developers and builders on compliance with building regulations and reducing build cost. And for landlords and local authorities we can manage technical system problems from a central point using our own call centre and engineers. For installers, who we are looking to recruit, we can offer free specialist training in Germany in how to maintain these products – a vital skill in the future.”
