With outputs of between 600kW and 1.9MW, the Ultramax R3400 and 3600SB series of gas fired condensing boilers from MHS are breaking new boundaries in terms of output and efficiency from a compact unit.

Ideally suited for larger commercial heating applications including schools, offices, retail centres, hotels or community heating projects, the Ultramax R3400/3600SB series can also be used in a cascade arrangement of up to eight boilers.

Strength and durability are intrinsic to the Ultramax R3400/3600SB series thanks to its manufacture using all stainless steel heat exchanger components. The boilers feature modulating, down-firing, premix burners with unique water cooling to the combustion system delivering controllability with efficiency and clean burning.

Thanks to their compact dimensions and low weight, the R3400 and R3600SB appliances are perfect for roof top plant room installation, as well as for installations where plant room space is at a premium. The boilers have an output to floor space ratio of around 380kW/m2 and power to weight ratio of 0.98kW/kg – which compares favourably to a conventional shell and tube boiler which is more than twice the weight and approximately 14kW lower output per square metre of footprint (not including the space needed for the burner).

The down-firing water-cooled pre-mix burner arrangement ensures maximum combustion efficiency while keeping the NOx emissions of both boilers to Class 5. The R3600SB models emit just 11.5mg/kWh, which easily exceed the requirements for the best BREEAM NOx emission rating.

To meet the needs of modern heating systems MHS offers a range of matched control options to deliver direct-on-boiler weather compensation and domestic hot water control, as well as the ability to control up to 16 zones and up to 8 boilers in cascade. Additionally, models up to 1100kW include a boiler primary pump as standard.

In addition to standard condensing boilers, there are optional “Split System” versions of the Ultramax R3600SB series, which have two return water connections - a hot return for higher temperature load circuits such as air handling units or hot water cylinders, and a cool return connection for weather compensated radiator circuits or under floor heating. In this way the cool return water can be separated and passed through the condensing section of the heat exchanger allowing the boiler to operate at a higher efficiency than if the higher and lower temperature return water was blended together and passed through the entire water circuit of the boiler heat exchanger.

As standard the heat exchanger carries a 5 year guarantee and entering into a Service Agreement with MHS Boilers, extends the warranty on the whole of the appliance components for up to 5 years.
