 | | BROAG-REMEHA’S GREEN COMMITMENT WITH OXFORD CITY COUNCIL | | | Broag Ltd | | 17/07/2008 | | | Broag-Remeha are pleased to announce that Oxford City Council has signed up to their carbon offsetting scheme, making them the third organisation in England to join the environmentally forward-thinking initiative since October last year.
Broag-Remeha has signed an agreement to offset the carbon emissions produced from its Remeha Avanta range of boilers installed in Oxford City Council social housing. Under the ground-breaking initiative, Broag-Rehema will pay a carbon offsetting sum of £7.50 per tonne to Climate Care for each new boiler purchased, one of the UK’s leading organisations in this field. Climate Care will deliver carbon emission reductions elsewhere in the world through carefully monitored and verified projects.
The product in question has already incorporated significant environmental improvements as the latest Remeha Avanta range has reduced carbon emissions by 34% compared to its predecessor. Broag-Remeha has been keen to welcome partners in its commitment to the environment and approached Community Gateway Association and People 1st last year, who were the first social housing organisations to sign up to the agreement.
Oxford City Council were very pleased to also get involved with the initiative as they are committed to playing a part in tackling climate change. They already work alongside local businesses and organisations, schools and colleges, communities and individuals to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the City, and have set ambitious targets to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the council's own buildings and operations.
Councillor Ed Turner, City Executive Board Member for Housing at Oxford City Council, commented on the partnership: “Oxford City Council is committed to playing a leading role in tackling climate change and this agreement shows the innovative way we are looking at the issue with our partners. We are responsible for almost 8,000 homes in Oxford and therefore have a clear responsibility to do all we can to reduce our impact on the environment. As well as carbon offsetting, we will continue to work hard to reduce the environmental impact of our own operations as well as guiding residents and businesses on energy efficiency and carbon emission reduction measure.”
Broag-Remeha National Sales Manager, Mike Freeman added, “We are delighted that Oxford City Council has signed up to our carbon offsetting initiative. We take our environmental responsibilities extremely seriously and that is why we have taken a lead on the green issue and embarked on a ground-breaking drive to reduce the environmental harm caused by our products to an absolute minimum. Oxford City Council have already started to reduce carbon emissions, but there are some activities where producing emissions is currently unavoidable, like heating your home. And that is where carbon offsetting comes in.
“To reduce Oxford’s impact on the climate, we are agreeing to offset one tonne towards the life of each of our Remeha Avanta boilers. Moreover, we hope that this scheme will encourage businesses and individuals to tackle climate change above and beyond our commitment. £7.50 per tonne it is a small price to pay for such a collectively significant contribution to combating climate change. We are looking forward to working with the Council on this exciting project.” | |
