 | | NEW LOOK FOR BLACKPOOL’S OTHER TOWERS | | | Alumasc Exterior Building Products | | 16/07/2008 | | | Market leading Façades specialist, Alumasc, has supplied its high performance traditional and contemporary render systems in bespoke colours to radically transform Blackpool’s only high-rise residential development at Laycock Gate.
In a dramatic departure from the muted finishes often associated with social housing, Ashworth Court, Charles Court and Churchill Court have been given a new look in toning shades of tangerine, blue and green. As a result, Blackpool’s alternative towers now present a far more appealing appearance, in keeping with the warm and sunny spirit synonymous with the seaside resort.
The project to remodel the buildings was part of a larger refurbishment programme carried out on behalf of Blackpool council. In view of the visual sensitivity of the site and the impact such a scheme would have on the wider landscape, the choice of finish came under close scrutiny in the planning process.
Alumasc’s technical and on site support teams were able to produce full size live panel samples of the renders and bespoke self-coloured aggregates under consideration. Each available colour has its own complementary shade variations from light to dark, extending the possibilities for harmonisation or contrast to an almost limitless extent, whilst offering long term weather protection and performance.
Alumasc’s M.R. polymer modified dashing render with aggregate dash finish along with ST silicone lightweight renders were used for the Laycock Gate project with the company working very closely with the clients and residents, who chose the final colours for each block from the samples provided.
The finished scheme is a strikingly attractive addition to the townscape, celebrating Blackpool’s vibrant and dynamic character and demonstrating the product’s long-term suitability for use in exposed, high-profile projects such as this.
