Reynaers have teamed up with Weston Homes once again to play a key role in a prestigious new development in Battersea.

Bridges Wharf is an extensive mixed-use scheme comprising of residential, commercial, leisure and hotel facilities, housed across three glass-fronted, tiered buildings ranging from six to 15 storeys. When complete, the scheme will provide a total of 266, one and two-bedroom apartments and penthouses, 8,000 sq ft of commercial space and 14,500 sq ft of retail space. The £150 million development will include the first new build and London-based, von Essen hotel boasting, 70 boutique-style, riverside rooms ,subterranean spa, new corporate head office and business suite and a rooftop restaurant offering breathtaking 360 degree views over Battersea and the River Thames. The restaurant is tipped to be headed by a Michelin-star chef.

As part of the deal von Essen has also acquired the freehold of nearby London Heliport, which will undergo significant upgrading as part of the Bridges Wharf redevelopment. The heliport will then be operated by its joint-venture partner, PremiAir, which already manages and operates von Essen’s fleet of luxury helicopters and jets.

Having worked closely with Weston Homes in the past, Reynaers were commissioned to draw up the brief for the façade of the development which posed a number of challenges.

“A development of this nature obviously needs to look spectacular to reflect the quality of the project”, said Justin Hunter of Reynaers. “But the proximity of the site to the river and to London Heliport meant that sound proofing was also an issue.”

A range of Reynaers products are therefore being utilised in the scheme to ensure that it creates a stunning exterior and permits magnificent views while coping with the heavy acoustic requirements. Reynaers CW60 thermally insulated curtain walling system is being used throughout the project. The robust profile is particularly suitable for applications with heavy glass and safety glazing requirements. The façade also features CS77 and CS68 tilt and turn windows, with a three chamber system giving improved thermal insulation for comfort and safety. A mix of TLS110 patio doors and CP155 LS patio doors – specifically designed to withstand heavy acoustics – is being used throughout while Vision 50 doors are being used on the ground floor to create an uncluttered look and also for their ability to be placed both on the outside and inside with a flush appearance.

Reynaers have worked closely with Weston homes previously on major developments such as Millharbour and approached Reynaers again for their expertise and experience on a project of this scale. Once again, a creative solution was required which had the ability to tick all the boxes in terms of vision specification, budget and quality of product.

All phases of the project are now underway. The façade is due for completion at the end of the year with the entire project scheduled for April 2009.
