 | | ARBORDECK GOES FOR GOLD AT BBC’S GARDENERS WORLD | | | Arbordeck | | 04/07/2008 | | | A stunning indoor show garden featuring the innovative use of Arbordeck deck boards has taken a top prize at this year’s BBC Gardener’s World Live show.
Created by Leeds based company Tracy Foster Garden Design with fellow designer Caroline Pollard of Derby, the striking jungle themed courtyard garden inspired by the work of artist Henry Rousseau was awarded a prestigious Gold medal and ‘Best Small Garden’ by the panel of judges from the Royal Horticultural Society.
The award-winning garden features Arbordeck’s smooth deck boards, which were used to create a decorative retaining wall around the courtyard garden. Built by approved Arbordeck installers Timberscapes Leeds, the unusual decked feature was then filled with various lush plants and flowers to complete the exotic design.
As Tracy explains, the versatility of the Arbordeck deck boards contributed greatly to the garden’s success: “Using deck boards to create raised garden beds is something that people can use in their own gardens to give planting extra height for privacy and seclusion. The design was very popular with the public who saw how easily it could be used as part of a larger garden or adapted to fit a small back yard. The quality of the materials and the installation was vital and both myself and Caroline and I are extremely grateful to Arbordeck, Timberscapes and our other sponsors”.
Despite boasting a tropical appearance, the plants used in the design can all be successfully grown in the UK without any special winter protection. They include Trachycarpus Palms, Choisya, Loquats, Smoke Bush, Stags Horn Sumach and Hostas, with splashes of colour coming from Red Hot Pokers, Day Lillies and Irises.

Boards are treated with Osmose Naturewood for long-term protection against fungal and insect attack.
