 | | SOLARCENTURY AND W COPELAND AND SON PROVIDE SUNNY DISPOSITION FOR NEW ECO DEVELOPMENT | | | Solarcentury | | 03/07/2008 | | | Solarcentury, the UK’s leading Solar energy company, has provided its unique integrated solar photovoltaic C21e tiles for W. Copeland and Son’s new environmentally friendly development of apartments and townhouses in Northern Ireland.
Construction work has started on the Newtownards homes, built on the site of the Knightsbridge Inn. These properties will showcase the latest renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency measures.
The development, which will comprise 36 townhouses, semi detached homes and apartments, is the first of its kind in Northern Ireland, using renewable technology in every property. The C21e roof integrated solar tile system, a total of 26kWp, will provide over 22,000 units of pollution free electricity every year and will save up to 14 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. In order to complete this ambitious development, Solarcentury and W Copeland and Son are collaborating with Northern Ireland Electricity.

Gwyneth Scott, NIE Energy, says putting renewable energy technologies onto new homes is an important step forward for Northern Ireland developers and NIE is delighted to be able to offer support. “These homes are ideal with a combination of the most up-to-date energy saving measures and renewable energy generated by solar roof tiles. The future homeowners of this type of property will not only enjoy lower energy bills, they will also be doing their bit for the local environment by substantially reducing CO2 emissions. These homes are also among the first in Northern Ireland to install C21 tiles, a new, highly efficient technology from Solarcentury, a UK leader in photovoltaic development.”
