Vulcathene chemical drainage has been specified for the brand new Maesteg School in South West Wales.

The specialist system will be used to carry waste from the sinks in science laboratory classrooms for the new school, which will welcome 1200 pupils aged 11-18 in September 2008.

The science behind Vulcathene is impressive; manufactured to the highest standards and is fully approved by the British Board of Agrement (BBA), the system provides resistance to chemicals and guaranteed non leak joints with two different jointing options available – Enfusion or Mechanical.

Installers FP Hurley specified 200 metres of piping for the project, and the installation took advantage of both jointing methods. Enfusion was used for pipework up to the size of 102mm in vertical runs, while the Mechanical fitting process was chosen for the smaller 40mm and 50mm pipework that was installed directly under the sinks.

Phillip Hurley, Director, FP Hurley, said: “We normally use Vulcathene for chemical waste because we know the product and its history. It is very reliable and we wanted to ensure we would be able to maintain the product in the future. Because it is non-permanent the mechanical jointing method used under the sinks allows us to make adjustments to the pipework without taking the entire system out.”

Vulcathene’s history also showcases exactly why it is top of the class for chemical drainage – it has been used by the laboratories of schools, hospitals and universities for more than 50 years - the only system of its type to have stood the test of time over such a long period.
