 | | KINGSPAN: CODE GREEN | | | Kingspan Off-site | | 19/06/2008 | | | Kingspan Off-Site is launching its Code for Sustainable Homes Assurance Scheme at the 2008 CIH Exhibition. The aim of the scheme is to disseminate the company’s working knowledge of meeting the demands of the new Government Code. The bespoke service could prove crucial to organisations looking to achieve a specific level when building new properties.
Kingspan Off-Site’s first hand experience of meeting the Code requirements was developed through creating the first Level 6 home, the Kingspan Lighthouse, at BRE’s Innovation Park in Watford last year.
The scheme will offer a consultancy service from pre-design stage and addresses all areas of the Code, incorporating aspects such as airtightness, waste recovery levels and CO2 emissions. Support can be provided through the design, construction and post-construction stages, including the post-completion certification process.
The scheme will be managed by a specially created ‘Building Performance Services Team’, comprising key team members behind the Kingspan Lighthouse project.
The level of support provided by the team will be assessed according to each individual project, with the service offering face to face meetings, site visits, telephone advice and literature created to guide organisations through the process of meeting the Code requirements, step by step.
Gilbert McCarthy, managing director of Kingspan Off-Site, explained: “The objective behind constructing the Kingspan Lighthouse was to learn how to reach the highest level of the Code, both in terms of design and build. The Lighthouse project was a great learning curve and we have gained a lot of experience along the way through putting our ideas into practice.
“There are aspects of reaching Code requirements that we discovered during our build which we can pass on to others, saving them time and money, and most importantly, helping them to reach their Code level of choice.”
