Kings Oak Homes, part of the Barratt Group and house builder of the year for the last 2 years, is completing a mixed dwelling development in Northampton comprising 253 apartments. The timber framed buildings are up to 7-storeys high with mid-range properties for private sale and affordable homes for LHA (Leicester Housing Association). An important consideration at the design stage was the need to minimise the structural load on the buildings wherever possible and Stormking reproduction stone cills were specified by Kings Oak Homes following extensive site trials.

The cills are made from grp and use Stormking’s closed mould resin transfer technology to produce a highly detailed, precision product which has the appearance of traditional stone. However they are light weight, yet extremely strong and durable making them ideal for these multi-storey applications.

Stormking cills are designed for face fixing and are exceptionally quick and easy to fix using all weather adhesive after the brick and render work has been completed. They are suitable for all weather site working and for all types of construction.

They are light weight, easing site handling, especially where multi-storey working is involved, as well as minimising future maintenance, making the Stormking cills a highly cost efficient alternative to traditional stone.

They come in Portland, Bath or York finishes and are supplied to customers size specifications, made up from a range of standard sizes.

Kings Oak Homes recognise the many benefits of using prefabricated elements to reduce on-site working, which can cause problems especially in adverse weather conditions. With “ready made” items delivered to site as and when they are required for use, storage, repeat handling and potential damage are reduced. Health & Safety working issues are less onerous with lightweight, easy to handle products and cost savings can be affected by reducing on-site work and complexity, as well as ensuring that every item is produced to an exact specification.

With a commitment to quality building, aesthetic design and cost efficient specification, prefabricated products such as the Stormking cills make very good sense indeed.
