New Polysafe Wood FX decorative sheet vinyl safety flooring – recently launched by commercial flooring specialist Polyflor Ltd – has been used to bring outstanding good looks and proven safety to St Mary’s Ward at St Anthony’s Hospital in North Cheam, Surrey, a leading independent hospital owned by The Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross of Liege.

“The floorcovering does everything that we want it to,” says site services manager Steve Leverington. “The timber effect design is extremely attractive, it cleans easily for good infection control and the sustained slip resistance ensures the safety of our patients and staff.”

Installed at the hospital by Mitcham-based flooring contractor MRP Dappa Flooring, Polysafe Wood FX is available in eight realistic timber styles and has a wide appeal across a commercial facility. Especially suitable for hospital wards, corridors, general circulation areas and front of house reception areas, Wood FX can be also be used in traditional use areas such as bathrooms and toilets where there are risks of contaminant spillages.

The outstanding decorative appeal of the flooring is fully matched by its slip resistant performance. In common with all Polysafe ranges, Polysafe Wood FX complies fully with HSE guidelines, providing sustained slip resistance throughout the guaranteed life of the product. The range also achieves 36+ on the RRL Pendulum wet test (Slider 96/Four S rubber) with a surface roughness of 20 microns and above to ensure a low slip risk classification is achieved.

In addition, the product has been independently tested and results demonstrate that it inhibits the growth of MRSA on the flooring. An effective cleaning regime is, however, the most important defence against infection.

The sustained slip resistance of Polysafe Wood FX is achieved by the incorporation of clear aluminium oxide throughout the wear layer, with aggregates specially formulated to ensure excellent clarity of design.

As well as compliance with HSE guidelines, Polysafe Wood FX meets the performance requirements of EN13845, the European Norm for safety flooring, and, fully tested to fire safety standard EN13501-1, is certified as Class Bfl-S1, achieving the criteria EN ISO 9239-1 ?8kw/m² and the mandatory requirement of EN ISO 11925-2 pass.
