 | | ELECTRAK KEEPS T5 LIGHTING CONTROL SYSTEM ON TRACK | | | Electrak International | | 16/06/2008 | | | Amongst all the extraordinary statistics surrounding the construction of Heathrow’s Terminal 5, the 30km of Electrak buscom track used to provide power and comms for the lighting control system is one that stands out.
Integrator and lighting control system supplier, Andromeda, was keen to use Electrak’s buscom because it was fully compatible with the company’s KNX/DALI lighting control system and is KNX approved. The company recommended it to M & E contractors AMEC and Crown House, and, thanks to the ease of use, cost effective installation and high quality of the Electrak system, it was specified throughout the terminals.
“We were already very familiar with the Electrak buscom track because both Andromeda and Electrak are represented on the board of the KNX Association,” commented managing director of Andromeda, Darren Burford. “We can only integrate our system with track that is KNX approved and because Electrak’s buscom has an integral communications bus, it also offered significant advantages to the contractors because it enabled a neat and extremely speedy installation.”
In many areas of the terminal, the Electrak buscom is concealed within the ceiling voids. In the main concourse area, however, the ceiling is open and passengers can see the clean lines of the interlocking lengths of track. With outlets every 30cm and full integration capabilities with any KNX, Lonworks or DALI building control accessories, Electrak’s buscom track now provides an adaptable power and comms infrastructure that can respond to the evolving needs of one of the UK’s largest man-made structures. | |
