The historic country house that was the secret location for Britain's Second World War code breaking operations is getting a face lift - and Jotun Paints
(Europe) Ltd's Optimal woodstain has been specified for the project.

Bletchley Park, near Milton Keynes, was home to thousands of top scientists and code breakers who among other things decrypted and interpreted messages from a large number of code and cipher systems, including the German Enigma machine.

The high-level intelligence produced, codenamed 'Ultra', was credited with aiding the Allies' defeat of Germany and shortening the war.

It is now the Bletchley Park National Codes Centre, open to the public and containing many historic wartime documents and exhibits.

Optimal, which is being applied to dozens of wooden window frames, fascias and soffits, was specified because of its durability and low maintenance qualities -it will provide up to 12 years protection against the weather.

The work is being carried out by Milton Keynes-based ESK Decorating Contractors Ltd - owner Steve Milner has specified Jotun products for many projects over the years - and will be completed by early summer.

David Dowsing, operations director at Bletchley Park National Codes Centre, said Optimal was specified because of its high performance and hard wearing capabilities, and added:

"With the double benefit of beautiful natural looks and longer lasting durability, Optimal was the ideal solution for this important restoration work."

The Optimal collection of water-borne, high performance stains provides up to 12 years protection of exterior timber and is available in a range of subtle tones and bright, bold colours.

Jotun Paints (Europe) Ltd is part of the Norway-based Jotun Group, one of the world's leading manufacturers of paints, coatings and powder coatings.

The Group has grown substantially over the last 80 years and today operates
67 companies and 40 production facilities across five continents. Employing 5,300 people (184 in the UK), sales income in 2006 was in excess US$ 1.2 billion.

In the UK, it provides protective coatings for the offshore, cathodic and industrial sectors, marine coatings and decorative paints sectors. This is supported with a technical advice service as part of its on-going commitment to customer service.
