 | | HANSON WELCOMES NEW GUIDE FROM ENERGY SAVING TRUST | | | Hanson Building Products | | 11/06/2008 | | | Hanson Building Products has welcomed the publication of the Energy Saving Trust’s latest guide, entitled ‘Energy Efficiency and the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4.’ The EST encourages energy efficiency and renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, and promotes better insulation and heating efficiency, as well as cleaner fuels for transport.
The cover of the new 16-page A4 guide features Hanson’s EcoHouseTM which was a major focal point at BRE Offsite 2007. The house demonstrates the company’s latest developments in sustainable modern masonry construction and ‘smart’ living, as well as the benefits of offsite fabrication, high thermal mass and natural ventilation. All of these are important factors in achieving the zero carbon targets which housebuilders and developers must meet by 2016.
The new EST guide, which is targeted at developers, specifiers, designers, builders, housing professionals and local government policy makers, provides technical guidance on new homes designed to achieve 44% lower CO2 emissions than the minimum levels specified in the national building regulations. Topics covered include construction and commissioning, future proofing, and scenarios for achieving the EST’s 44% solutions. Highly detailed charts illustrate the specification information for detached, semi-detached, and mid-terrace houses, as well as four-storey flats.
“We welcome the publication of this latest guide from the Energy Saving Trust,” says Paul Lacey, Hanson’s Head of Marketing and Communications, “and we are delighted that our EcoHouse is featured so prominently as an example of energy efficiency in housebuilding and construction. Through our Sustainability Programme, we are strongly committed to the long-term protection and improvement of the environment.
“The fact that the EST chose our project to demonstrate energy efficiency in practice reflects the growing awareness throughout the industry of Hanson’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.” | |
