Planet Partitioning, the UK’s leading partitioning contractor, has completed a challenging interior fit-out for the newly built Folkestone Academy. Designed by internationally renowned architects Foster and Partners, the Academy buildings provide a state of the art learning environment which is being described as among the best in the UK.

Planet’s award-winning Solar fully-glazed partitioning plays a key design role throughout the building in order to maximise light and space and add to the overall contemporary feel. Among the most visually striking elements are the atria of the eight ‘houses’ – these are full height circular timber pods that accommodate facilities such as a restaurant, recreation room and teachers’ offices. The atria were constructed using 19mm heat soaked toughened glass in order to achieve the stunning curves. Planet also supplied glazed balustrades for the corridors that separate the classrooms from the various ‘houses’.

Running the length of both sides of the building, double-glazed Solar panels line the front of the classrooms with painted timber doors and 60s fire-rated Solar has been used for the atrium to the library.

Planet were commissioned by main contractor Wates Construction and worked closely throughout with the team in order to achieve the ground-breaking design brief.
