Levolux has worked closely with developers Urban Splash on the regeneration of two key sites: Fort Dunlop, the iconic former tyre factory in Birmingham, and the new Matchbox building in South Liverpool.

Part of the successful regeneration of the Speke Halewood area, spearheaded by Liverpool Land Development Company, the Matchbox project is a spectacular high-specification fully glazed office building.

Designed by Liverpool-based architect Snook, it provides 19,000 sq ft of Grade A office accommodation with comfort cooling from Levolux – a critical component for a cube-shaped building made entirely from glass!

Each elevation has three floors, with a grid dividing them into five. Levolux has installed 15 external Venetian blinds on each side, 60 in total. The blinds substantially reduce solar heat gain and associated energy costs, while optimising lighting conditions and helping to control glare. They also help insulate the building by reducing the amount of night cooling during winter months.

Uniquely, the blinds have the ability to protect against glare as well as very fine light control due to the variable slat positions. Exterior views are still maintained, ensuring occupants do not feel cut off from the outside world.

Neil Dawson, Project Architect for Snook + Shedkm, said: “For both of these innovative projects we needed innovative solar shading systems to match.

“Levolux supplied us with tailor made solutions that enhance the appearance of the buildings, something that is vital to regeneration schemes, and also significantly reduce solar heat gain and energy costs.”

Like all systems from Levolux, Aerofoil Fins and Ventilation Louvres are backed with the company’s design, manufacture and installation package.

Levolux has over 160 years experience in the design, project management, manufacture, installation and maintenance of sunscreening systems, providing standard or bespoke solutions to existing and new buildings for interior and exterior applications.

Committed to providing the best range of products and systems to architects and specifiers to maximise the applications of glass while employing the most energy efficient solutions to control light, glare and solar heat gain, Levolux has worked on some of the most significant projects in the world.

Recent projects include: Chiswick Park, Bristol’s Brunel Care Home, Kew Gardens, Swiss Cottage, Northampton Academy, National Trust, Brighton’s Jubilee Library and the Diamond Light Source.
