 | | ICOPAL MEMBRANES BRING A TOUCH OF CLASS TO SOUTHPORT | | | Icopal | | 29/05/2008 | | | Two products from building membranes specialist Icopal are being used on a £24 million development that is transforming the sea front area of the genteel north-west resort of Southport.
Allenbuild Northwest’s approved sub-contractor Helix Industrial Roofing is installing Ico-pal’s Sure-Weld TPO to a total roof area of almost 7,000m² on three landmark buildings by the town’s iconic bridge over the marine lake.
Sure-Weld is an environmentally-friendly product in an environment that being coastal, is not always friendly, as it is a fully recyclable advanced Thermoplastic Polyolefin single-ply membrane that is free of PVC and specially formulated for long-term exposure without the use of either polymeric or liquid plasticisers.
The three landmark buildings comprise a new six-storey, 133-bed, four-star hotel with con-ference centre beneath and a new casino as well as extended conference facilities to the nearby floral hall itself.
Helix is also installing Icopal’s Olympic Thermaweld built-up system – a new-generation of bitumen membrane with groove technology that is 30% faster to apply than traditional torch-ons - on the balconies and terraces of the hotel and casino.
Designed by NJSR Architects on a design and build basis for client Neptune Develop-ments, the project also includes a new public plaza with parking for 123 cars underneath, and bars and restaurants. Pedestrian areas along the promenade and marine lake are also being upgraded.
While the closure of the original Pleasureland amusement park two years ago signified to many the demise of the town, more recent building projects, including a £9 million boutique hotel and £8 million Splashworld extension to The Dunes centre are reinvigorating the re-sort.
The Floral Hall complex is the flagship, bringing a much-needed upmarket and contempo-rary look to the sea front. | |
