 | | CREATE ‘GRAND DESIGNS’ FROM FINNFOREST’S KERTO | | | Finnforest UK | | 27/05/2008 | | | With sustainability now a key focus for all house builders, Finnforest is keen to show just how simply this can be achieved with the right blend of materials. This was demonstrated at Grand Designs Live, where Finnforest supplied Kerto to the ‘House that Kevin built’.
The challenge, to construct a modern, sustainable home in just six days. Architect and Channel 4’s Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud showed the public, both at the event and live on Channel 4’s Grand Designs Live, how simple it is to build a sustainable and attractive home, when using the right materials.
Finnforest supplied its laminated veneer lumber, Kerto, to be used in various structural elements across the build. Kerto contributes positively to sustainable construction as all timber used in the production of Finnforest’s products is sourced from PEFC certified forests, and carries independently audited Chain of Custody accreditation.
Kerto is a high technology wood product, produced for advanced engineering, and developed exclusively by Finnforest. Kerto possesses excellent bending resistance, tension and compression properties, and has more load-carrying capacity than most traditional wooden materials.
Now completed, the ‘The House that Kevin Built’ building will be dismantled and moved from the Grand Designs Live event to the Building Research Establishment in Hertfordshire, where it will then be open to the public to view, and gain advice on how it was constructed. | |
