The versatility and uniformly high performance of Kingspan Insulated Panels products has been emphasised by the construction of an expansive new business park in Poole, Dorset. Kingspan Thermatile, Kingspan Optimo, KS1000 RW Trapezoidal, and KS1000 MR Micro-Rib Architectural Wall Panel were all used during the building of twenty four units at the site.

With excellent transport links to Bournemouth and Southampton, Branksome Business Park is an exciting addition to an established office area. Developer Anker & Rawlings have commissioned a £6 million range of buildings including the attractive Branksome Park House, which contains a number of office suites.

Tom Colbourne from cladding contractors T A Colbourne explains the specification criteria: “There was a variety of buildings on the project - ranging from budget business units to high specification offices. Kingspan were able to supply products which suited the application, reflected the architectural design and were within budget.”

As the site is in a mainly residential area, aesthetic concerns were more pronounced than they may otherwise have been, and a solution to reconciling issues of appearance and building envelope performance was needed.

The use of Kingspan Thermatile, with its overlaid terracotta tiles, and the smooth lines of Kingspan Optimo allowed Branksome Park House to blend in with the pre-existing residential development. These products have excellent air permeability performance and so also helped the building to achieve air leakage rates better than those required for its prescribed Part L2 Target Emission Rate, increasing energy efficiency and saleability. Furthermore, hidden joint details and a range of project specific accessories maximise visual impact.

Both KS1000 MR and KS1000 RW were used on other business units on site. KS1000 MR is an architectural wall panel with a Micro-Rib profile that combines aesthetic appeal with Part L2 compliance, alongside LPCB and FM approved specifications.

Established in the marketplace for over 30 years, KS1000 RW is a top-selling composite panel system suitable for roofing or cladding in new build and refurbishment projects. Its pre-engineered and lightweight single-fix system can reduce installation time by up to 50% and satisfy HSE and CDM safety recommendations. Furthermore, a 120mm thick panel is now available, which can achieve a U-value as low as 0.16 W/m²K.

Throughout the project, Kingspan Insulated Panel’s envirocare Technical Services department were on hand to address any problems. Indeed, T A Colbourne staff received training from Kingspan’s Field Services Engineering team during installation and Tom Colbourne remarks on Kinsgpan’s “excellent technical back up and training facilities.”
