Maintenance crews accessing the rooftop of Cheltenham’s Primark building can work in complete safety when accessing air conditioning plant thanks to the recent installation of a KeeGuard? roof edge protection system from Kee Safety Ltd.

National fit-out and refurbishment specialists ISG Dean+Bowes were contracted to install a new air-conditioning plant at the recently opened Primark store on Cheltenham’s high street, as well as complete a series of other internal and external alterations. Recognising that the KeeGuard® system can provide effective permanent protection against falls from height, ISG Dean+Bowes specified the system to assure optimum safety for operatives servicing and maintaining a/c equipment.

As a result, the KeeGuard® roof edge protection system has been installed to surround the building’s rooftop plant area. Additional features include a self-closing gate to enhance fall protection and still allow ease of access. The new KeeGuard? system is also quick and easy to erect, which kept installation noise and disruption to a minimum for customers at the high street store.

The KeeGuard® system allows the guardrail to be placed in the saddle of an open fitting, making system assembly up to twice as fast as conventional roof edge protection systems. The system also allows for considerable versatility in assembly. Individual sections are connected together using standard tubing and Kee Safety Ltd’s extensive range of fittings for a strong, rigid and virtually maintenance free connection. Using these fittings the system can cope easily with any changes in angle or direction without the need for any additional fabrication work. Each Kee Klamp? fitting incorporates an integral set screw to lock the casting safely and securely onto the tube.

The KeeGuard? system is fully tested to EN 14122 : pt 3, HSE Specialist Inspectors Report No 15, and complies with the requirements of HS (G) 33 – Safety in Roofwork, HSE Sheet 21 – “Working on Flat Roofs”, BS6399: Part 2 1995 Wind Code and all other relevant Health and Safety, EU and CDM regulations. All assemblies utilise fittings approved by TüV, one of Europe’s independent test houses, for extra peace of mind.
