Mills Ltd, the specialist supplier of cable management and tooling for the communications industry, has further expanded its range of test equipment with the introduction of the OWL ZOOM fibre optic test kit. Ideal for network managers and professional cabling installers, the low cost tester provides a reliable and accurate means to test for optical loss across fibre links.

The OWL ZOOM test kit is available either as an ST or SC version and comprises an OWL light source and ZOOM power meter housed in a rugged carrying case. The light source has dual wavelength outputs of 850 and 1300nm and the output is temperature stabilised for accurate measurements. Battery life is around 40 hours.

The ZOOM power meter is a quad wavelength device, operating at both 850/1300 and 1310/1500nm. The ZOOM can store reference values for all of its calibrated wavelengths and displays optical power as an absolute value in dBm, or relative to the user set zero reference in dB. The seven segment LED display shows power readings with a resolution of 0.1dB. LED indicators confirm the selection of dB or dBm mode and verify that the battery power is sufficient to maintain accurate measurements. Battery life is around 15 hours and the ZOOM comes with a 2.5mm fixed universal connector.

For installers that like to `test the testers', Mills offer a `try before you buy option' where a representative can demonstrate the product at the user's premises or on site. The OWL ZOOM fibre optic cabling kit is part of a much wider range of fibre optic installation accessories, test equipment and tooling, which is described in full in the latest 2006 Mills catalogue.

Mills offer the professional network cabling installer a comprehensive source of supplies, equipment and tooling backed up with a high level of advice and support including next day delivery and a nationwide network of product collection points.
