 | | ‘THINK BRICK’ WEBSITE SHOWCASES BEST OF BRICK | | | Brick Development Association (BDA) | | 16/05/2008 | | | A stylish new website has been launched to allow building professionals and the public to get the best out of brick.
The ‘Think Brick’ website is packed with information, from great brick projects to technical downloads. Yet it is easy to navigate and very accessible. While the public will be able to understand it, building professionals will find the site an invaluable online resource.
The site is an impressive showcase for brick, inspirational projects from around the world, and pioneering brickwork design and specification.
The site’s branding is ‘Think Brick’, to reflect the fresh, progressive outlook of the brick industry’s trade body, the Brick Development Association.
Brick has long been a favourite among architects, developers and the public. Its warm and humanising character brings buildings to life. An external brick wall adds scale, colour and texture. Then there’s the choice – 1200 different varieties of brick are produced in the UK alone – and it blends so easily and naturally with its surroundings.
A recent study by the Royal Institute of Chartered surveyors found that, against a line-up of popular finishes for the external skin, brick beat just about all of them on price.
Brick is also big in the sustainability stakes. Made from an abundant natural material, it is highly durable, low maintenance, energy efficient over its life in the average building, and can be recycled.
The ‘Think Brick’ website provides innovative, inspirational information for making the most of brick. Although it has been tried and tested over millennia, new and versatile ways of using this versatile material are constantly being explored.
The new website gives the inside track on this. It marshals all the information in an easily digestible form, accessible from a clearly signposted home page.
The sections include the latest news, research, design and technical developments. This includes a detailed rundown on the case for brick, the benefits of the material and how it can be used to best effect.
There are direct links to the brick manufacturers and to other industry bodies. A comprehensive FAQs section provides answers to questions.
A separate menu on the home page provides a gallery of brick in action and projects.
Visitors can also access technical publications covering issues such as brick and mortar, design and detailing, maintenance and repair, structural brickwork and, of course, the industry bible, the Brick Bulletin. Many of these publications can be downloaded for free from the site. | |
