INTERSPAN MOVES WITH THE TIMES IN DUBLIN

One of the largest commercial regeneration projects yet undertaken in Europe has featured the creation of an impressive new shopping complex containing a natural stone floor, where Tremco illbruck’s mechanical movement joints were selected to take account of complex loading conditions.

The contract at the Dundrum Town Centre development on the outskirts of Dublin was undertaken by John Sisk and Sons, with Burke Kennedy Doyle being the architectural consultant responsible for the majority of the paving designs. The supplier of the materials for the mall floor was Devon based Stone Cladding International.

Due to the nature of the contract and the vertical as well as horizontal deflections anticipated, Interspan FS110 all metal mechanical movement joints from the Tremco illbruck range were specified. These are able to accommodate up to plus or minus 15 mm of movement. The company’s technical expertise and design support were also crucial in winning the order.

Rick Jones of Stone Cladding International explains: “This was a complex contract where we were involved in laying a mix of Jura limestone and several different types of granite, in a wide variety of sizes. The Interspan movement joints which were chosen to create the parallel joints across the mall area were easy to install and worked well.”

Tremco illbruck also supplied a special rubberised vapour barrier to be laid beneath the Interspan profiles. This Compriband product fits beneath the edges of the marble floor tiles and loops back into the movement joint and offers additional protection.
