 | | FANCY FOOTWORK FROM OBG | | | Office Blinds & Glazing Ltd | | 23/04/2008 | | | Translucent glass partitioning from OBG is providing privacy for patients at the University of Salford’s new Podiatry Clinic. The state-of-the-art facility offers full training for students plus courses and conferences qualified podiatrists looking to develop their clinical skills.
Partitions produced from 10mm Matelux satin finish glass were supplied and installed by OBG to create eighteen consultation rooms where students can treat real patients under the supervision of qualified staff. AGC’s Matelux is a float glass treated with a high quality acid to produce a ‘frosted’ surface that allows light to pass through but partially obscures objects on the other side. As part of the innovative interior design, OBG also installed a floor to ceiling curved ‘wall of glass’ in the reception area. Backlit with green and blue neon lights, the wall provides an eye-catching feature on entering the clinic.
OBG was able to offer invaluable advice on the design specification for the Clinic’s new partitioning. The project’s main contractors, Garside and Laycock, had previous experience of OBG’s services, which include glass and glazing for partition systems, glass doors and window blinds, when the company installed glazed partitioning at their new offices in Preston. “We found them friendly, efficient and competitively priced,” explains Mark Parker, Garside and Laycock’s Commercial Manager. “Their technical expertise and knowledge of the different glazing options enabled us to achieve cost-savings without compromising aesthetics or the required privacy levels for patients undergoing treatment.”
Matelux is a cost effective alternative to sandblasted glass and is not as susceptible as alternative glasses to unsightly staining, such as finger marks. The glazed partitions at the Clinic are combined with sliding doors, in the same glass, fitted with the Dorma Manet range, which feature single point fixings for a clean, minimalist appearance. The 15m long light wall in the reception is also created from 10mm Matelux glass to complement the partitioning.
The work was completed by OBG fitters in a two-week period. Mark Parker comments, “Everything went very smoothly and the effect is really stunning. The clever use of glass creates a bright, modern feel to the Clinic and the University is absolutely delighted with the result.” | |
