COUNCIL GIVES RAINLINE THE GREEN LIGHT

The green credentials of Lindab's Rainline™ Aluzinc rainwater system have made it the first choice for Oakwood House, a sustainable construction project by Exeter City Council. The recently completed building is the new home of the Council's Cleansing and Recyling, Building Maintenance and Fleet Management sections. Manufactured from galvanized steel, which contains recycled metal and is itself recyclable, Lindab's Rainline™ system has provided an eco-friendly solution for the project. Other sustainability features of the new timber building include high levels of natural light and ventilation, the use of recycled insulation material and a proposed small wind turbine to generate electricity.

'As part of our Environmental Policy we try to minimise the use of PVC so Lindab's Aluzinc Rainline™ was clearly preferable to a plastic rainwater system. It also has lower embodied energy than an aluminium system,' explains Mike Baldwin, Project Architect at Exeter City Council. The long useful life of the Rainline™ system offers major environmental benefits and results in a low total life cost compared with materials such as U-PVC. Because it lasts longer, Aluzinc contributes to the conservation of resources and requires virtually no maintenance. The product's aluminium zinc coating is highly resistant to corrosion and the surface is twice as hard as that of hot-dip galvanized sheet steel. Furthermore, the silvery finish is guaranteed corrosion-free and colourfast for 15 years.

Stacey Construction of Taunton, an approved contractor to Devon and Somerset Councils, installed approximately 50m of Rainline™ guttering and downpipes at Oakwood House. Having used Rainline™ before, the company considered it an ideal choice for the project, says Stacey Construction's Contracts Manager, Dick Purton. 'It's an excellent product and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an effective, sustainable solution. As an added bonus, it's also installer-friendly and so very quick and easy to fit.'

Lindab Group is an international organisation which manufactures sheet metal products for ventilation as well as building products such as rainwater solutions, roof sheeting, and construction stud systems. The Group turns over approximately £1/2 billion and employs approximately 4,500 people, mainly in Europe.
