Gripple Hangers, manufactured by Sheffield-based Gripple Limited, have become the first choice for Liverpool-based suspended ceiling specialists, Maxmade in their cold room installations following the completion of two contracts which saw their first use in the UK within such an environment.

The revolutionary Gripple Hangers, already used successfully to suspend and brace ceilings in cold storage distribution centres in Australia, were chosen by Maxmade after the company recognised their numerous benefits, both to the installer and the facility in which they are used.

Ready-to-use Gripple hangers comprise a length of galvanised steel wire rope, which is attached to the topside of the ceiling panels using eye-bolts with turnbuckles and stud ends - fastened on their underside by mushrooms and top hats - and then wrapped around roof beams or uni-strut before being adjusted for height and secured by a Gripple wire joiner. Unlike other suspension systems, when roof beams are not directly above any suspension point the hangers can be angled and attached without additional bridging.

The hangers are strong, installed quickly and easily and, by providing additional support, prevent panels sagging and maintain the ceiling's structural integrity in the event of fire.

In the latest Maxmade cold room installations Gripple Hangers were also attached to innovative penetration frames to allow the incorporation of lighting, ducting and ventilation services without weakening the ceiling panels.

The hangers' speed of installation helps minimise accidents and installation equipment hire and delivers huge savings in labour costs. They also benefit the environment by emitting in their production up to 17 times less carbon dioxide than other suspension systems and, because of their light weight, reducing fuel consumption during transit.

Geoff Alford, a Maxmade director, said: "Gripple Hangers are ideally fit for purpose, requiring minimal effort and time in installation and having been strenuously tested for loading and fire resistance to ensure they will not fail before the ceiling panels. After proving their value to our business, I have every intention of using Gripple Hangers in all our future cold room installations."
