Potterton’s commitment to providing social housing providers, housebuilders and developers, homeowners and installers with an extremely environmentally friendly, high efficiency range of domestic heating boilers has earned it the accolade of Highly Commended in the Corporate Social Responsibility award at the prestigious National Business Awards 2007.

The company has embraced the Government’s housing initiatives and legislation, such as the Code for Sustainable Homes, and previously EcoHomes (part of the Building Research Establishment’s range of environmental rating systems), and the revisions to Part L of the Building Regulations in 2005, and has worked hard on the development and design of its range to ensure it meets and exceeds the strict standards required. It has also strived to keep its customers informed of the changes to legislation, explaining the jargon in simple terms and clarifying exactly what their responsibilities are and how they can conform.

The judges of the award were looking for organisations that could demonstrate evidence of a clearly articulated and widely communicated CSR strategy. While it achieved a ‘very good’ level in all of the award categories, Potterton scored particularly well in the ‘Engaging People’ and ‘Results’ categories:

Some serious investment and activity… …ensuring stakeholders are engaged in a partnership with, and are committed to the success of the organisation.

…delivers leading results within its sector.

Potterton prides itself on being a responsible manufacturer and has invested heavily in research and development to increase the efficiency its products and decrease the amount of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) they produce. In this way the company can play its part in the building of more environmentally friendly, more energy efficient and cost effective homes.

At its state-of-the-art design and development department and laboratory testing facilities, every stage of design and development, reliability, energy efficiency and emissions are tested, sometimes for months at a time in extreme conditions.

As a result, the Potterton Promax HE range offers one of the largest ranges of low NOx (Nitrogen Oxide – a contributing factor to acid rain) emitting boilers in the industry. The NOx emissions of the range are kept below 50 milligrams per kilowatt hour (mg/kWhr), and most models perform below 40 mg/kWhr, which meets the strictest NOx rating and delivers the maximum Code for Sustainable Homes credits per home.
