 | | RUUKKI OFFSITE SOLUTIONS GAIN AGRÉMENT ACCREDITATION | | | Ruukki UK Ltd | | 02/11/2007 | | | Ruukki has recently achieved British Board of Agrément certification for its Nordicon range of offsite wall and roof panels.
This important accolade is the latest installment in an international success story for Ruukki’s offsite solutions that spans well over a decade and sales of over half a million square metres.
The company has thus acquired what it believes is unrivalled experience in supplying prefabricated building envelope solutions that arrive on site and are simply fixed in place, cutting construction time and shrinking installation costs. Ruukki UK Ltd, the York-based UK subsidiary of Ruukki, is now at the forefront of the spread of offsite solutions in this country.
Agrément Certificate number 06/4393 provides full details of the construction of the basic Nordicon panels. Correct installation procedures are also addressed, in addition to confirmation of thermal, fire, sound, air tightness and structural loading properties.
In the UK, Ruukki has enjoyed sustained success with Nordicon solutions, including recent projects at Bourbon Lane Housing Development, White City, London, Liverpool’s Kings Waterfront Conference and Exhibition Centre and an ongoing major PFI hospital project in Portsmouth.
Nordicon roofing panels are especially suited to buildings such as industrial units, warehouses, sports halls and large-scale housing. All aspects of each panel are manufactured off-site, including a single-ply external membrane which greatly reduces on-site installation time and cost – the only requirement is to weld the overlapping membrane joints in-situ.
The long span capability of the system reduces the need for secondary steelwork and improving internal building aesthetics. The depth and thickness of the purlins in the system can be varied to allow longer or shorter spans.
Its versatile nature allows for fine tuning adjustments to be made to the precise construction to achieve various performance levels. For example, different types of heavy board can be introduced to improve sound reduction levels up to 66dB from the 47dB level provided by the basic panel. Enhanced sound absorption in noisy internal environments can be achieved by use of a perforated liner tray.
Panels feature holes for eyebolts at each corner to facilitate easy mechanical lifting onto the roof structure. They are simply fastened to the steel frame by using suitable fixings and inserted at pre-determined intervals. They are then sealed together using the pre-installed single ply membrane strip.
Installation speed is perhaps the most impressive aspect of this off-site solution. One UK airport project recorded an amazing figure of 1400m2 installed in just one night shift! Ruukki’s off-site assembled roofing panels have been widely used on buildings at both Heathrow and Gatwick Airport, as part of initiatives to avoid build programmes disrupting flight schedules.
Ruukki Nordicon wall panels provide a seamless envelope solution. Instead of featuring a single-ply PVC membrane, they can accommodate almost any form of conventional cladding, including rain screens and profiled sheets.
The exterior wall system is pre-fabricated in ready-made panels, based around a framework of thermally broken steel purlins, commonly described as thermo purlins.
Available in a wide range of bespoke sizes, panels are delivered to site, often with windows, doors and façade cladding already fitted.
Nordicon wall elements can accommodate almost any form of conventional cladding including profiled or flat steel, aluminium sheets, rainscreens, timber cladding, bricks, glass, render, as well as stone or ceramic tiles.
Nordicon wall panels can provide the load bearing capacity for the structure of houses, up to three storeys and fully answer the current call for more rapidly constructed, affordable dwellings.
In residential multi-storey buildings, panels are non-load bearing and are generally used as quickly installed external envelope walling systems, cutting construction time. They can be adapted to accommodate features such as arches, difficult corners or even balconies.
Ruukki is also accredited to the ISO14001 environmental management standard and Nordicon roof and wall panels are manufactured from recyclable materials. | |
