 | | TESCO ADDS A LITTLE EXTRA WITH EUROBOND | | | Eurobond | | 02/11/2007 | | | The reduction of fire risk was at the forefront of the design and construction of Tesco’s new Livingstone distribution centre. Eurobond non-combustible, Firemaster Extra 150mm thick composite wall panels were specified and supplied to provide a truly fire resistant internal partition wall.
The impressive 100,000m2 distribution centre will serve all Tesco stores in Scotland, potentially saving four million distribution miles per annum. The site also incorporates a 51.5 hectare recycling site helping to reduce the company’s environmental impact still further.
Specified by Tesco, Eurobond’s non-combustible internal composite wall panels were installed by contractors O’Turner Insulation Ltd to the distribution centre’s offices and internal warehouse partition walls.
Manufactured from Corus Performa White, S5824, the Firemaster Extra panels were supplied to fit the requirements of the building’s design and the demands of a short build programme.
Project Manager Paul Tilby of O Turner Insulation Ltd said: “Safety was a key consideration for the building’s interior construction. In a large development such as this, a product was needed that could provide a high level of fire protection.
Firemaster Extra is manufactured using a non-combustible mineral wool core so it doesn’t contribute to fire spread and emits minimal amounts of smoke in the event of a fire. Both key factors in safeguarding Tesco’s stock against fire or smoke damage”
In addition, Eurobond panels contain no ozone-depleting or hazardous substances and at ‘end of life’ can be totally recycled - meaning they are also in line with Tesco’s focus on reducing its environmental impact.
Firemaster Extra has undergone extensive research and testing for its fire protection capabilities and is fully certificated to Loss Prevention Certification Board LPS1181, LPS1208 and Factory Mutual FM 4880 test standards.
Firemaster panels are capable of achieving up to four hours fire resistance and the structural mineral wool core has the highest Euroclass rating, A1 under the new European reaction to fire standard BS EN ISO 1182. | |
