Lafarge Plasterboard has supplied all the drylining requirements for the newly opened Redland Green School in Bristol.

The prestigious secondary school, designed by architects BDP for Bristol City Council, features the very best in contemporary education design including a 12m high atrium known as the Street and a roof top relaxation and study area.

Lafarge was chosen for the contract because it had supplied plasterboard to previous BDP projects and because the appointed drylining contractors Micra Interiors particularly favoured the Megadeco board used in the majority of the contract as it provided a single board solution.

Megadeco is one of Lafarge’s high performance boards offering a combination of acoustic, fire and impact performance. It is particularly useful on large scale contracts like Redland Green School as it has a decorative white face and colour matched joint cements which mean that, once constructed, linings and partitions have a consistent white appearance ready for final decoration. This eliminates the requirement for separate sealing of the board on site, effectively saving one complete operation.

Lafarge’s Pregybel perforated acoustic board has also been used for the Street, the ceilings in the hall and music rooms in order to provide the necessary sound absorption. It combines stylish, contemporary aesthetics with outstanding performance. Pregybel has a protective glass mat pre-glued to the back to prevent dust emission.

There was a consistent environmental focus on the Redland Green site and Micra Interiors used Lafarge’s Wasteline solution to take care of the collection, disposal and recycling of its plasterboard waste. Lafarge delivered skips to the site to remove waste and offcuts which, once filled, were collected and returned to Lafarge’s Bristol factory for recycling.

Redland Green School opened in September 07 with an intake of Years 7, 8 and 12 but, once full, will accommodate around 950 11-16 year olds and 450 pupils aged 16 and above.
